This piece of Earth Art was created by Joern Hansen. He creates Earth art based on the scenery and objects that are lying around. Therefore, I would assume that he used seashell to make this piece. When I look at this I see a bunch of gold coins, some of which have been arranged in an arch. This arch is what a person can do when shuffling cards or releasing coins in a stack from one hand to the other. This piece has really insprired me for my project that I have to do at the end of this course.
Relating to the text, this piece could be seen as forming the number 0. This is not a significant number, but I believe that Lucy Lippard would classify as Earth art, since it does form a number. I plan on having a picture in the future that contains one of the significant number (3,9,28,7).
Your comment is very interesting considering that theorists have at times described our present art movement as "Degree Zero" ...
ReplyDeleteWhat image/cultural earth art piece that we have seen in class does this remind you of?
ReplyDeleteThis is a really cool piece. I like the thought and degree of mathematics and engineering that must have gone into getting all of the stones to stay and support themselves the way they do in the "zero" part of the sculpture. Good find!
ReplyDeletethis piece could be related to Lucy Lippard's art piece that is on the cover of our book (I can not remember the name)
